What is considered a simple build? Is it a truck that is simple itself? Or is it a truck that was built in a way that makes it simple to live with, easy to maintain, easy to fix on the trail, nothing you can’t diagnose with basic tools?Because I’d argue a bone-stock truck with 40 aftermarket “simple” bolt-ons isn’t simple anymore, and a heavily built truck with clean wiring and thoughtful choices can beThis Toyota Hilux embodies that philosophy. It was built by our friends at Stellar Built, and at its core, it’s just a Toyota Hilux. It’s a diesel. It’s on portals, it has a few lights, and it’s wired up by an sPOD. That’s it.Okay, but seriously, let’s talk about why this truck is actually simple.
You can’t build a simple truck on a complicated foundation, and there may be no better starting platform for a reliable truck on Earth than a diesel Hilux. This is the truck known around the world as the most reliable vehicle. The one Top Gear famously tried and failed to kill by drowning it, dropping it, setting it on fire, and putting it on top of a demolished building. It started every time.While we never got a Hilux in the U.S., we did get its cousin, the Toyota Tacoma. There’s a reason the Hilux is the default vehicle anywhere in the world where breaking down isn’t an option. It’s simple: a stout ladder frame, a diesel that runs forever, and nothing on it that a set of hand tools and some patience can’t fix. When your starting point is a truck engineered to survive decades of abuse in places with no dealership for a thousand miles, your decision into modifications better make it worthwhile.
The truck sits on 74Weld portal axles, which lift the truck higher and improve gearing to accommodate larger tires. But the huge added benefit is ground clearance, and what better way to test ground clearance than taking it through the Rubicon? That’s exactly what they did just a few weeks ago. With only a rear locker and 35-inch tires.It still runs the factory lower control arms and factory suspension geometry. No long-travel kit, no custom links, no exotic geometry to chase alignment specs on. The only suspension upgrade is a set of Fox Performance Series 2.5 shocks, and that's it. That’s the simple-build philosophy in action: upgrade what earns its place, leave alone what already works.
Up front, a custom bumper designed and manufactured by Stellar Built houses Baja Designs LP4s ands a set of Baja Designs Squadron infrared IR lights all wired to an sPOD Mini6 controller and the SourceLT power module. And this is the perfect setup for a build like this, because the electrical system is exactly as simple as the truck.
The sPOD SourceLT delivers 6 circuits at 30 amps each with no relays and no fuses. The whole system runs on current-sensing MOSFETs with self-healing fault protection, so there's nothing to blow and nothing to replace on the trail. One cable connects the power module to the Mini6 in the cab, and that's the entire install. Built-in Bluetooth connects to the sPOD app, giving you full control from your phone, which includes dimming, strobing, flashing, switch linking, and more. It even includes low voltage cutoff (LVCO) to protect the battery when the truck sits. No rat’s nest of relay wiring. No fuse block zip-tied under the dash. One clean system that just turns the lights on, which, on a simple build, is all it should do.
The rear gets a high-clearance bumper and a GFC topper storage and departure angle, nothing more. Every choice on this Hilux answers the same question: does this make the truck easier to live with, or harder? Integrating an sPOD with Ford Upfitter Switches
We all love a good tactile switch. The upfitter switches that come standard on Ford trucks from the Super Duty to the F-150 Raptor and Bronco are a great, easy way to integrate lighting and accessories into your vehicle. No fishing wires through the cab, no figuring out where to mount relays. You simply plug into the upfitter harness and go.But here's the thing: they're just switches. On and off. The stock upfitter system is limited in how much power it can actually push through each circuit, which means your options for running high-power accessories are capped unless you run an inlay relay. That's where the sPOD BantamX comes into play.
By integrating a sPOD BantamX into your Ford's electrical system, each circuit becomes capable of handling 30 amps, enough to run lights, compressors, lockers, fans, radios, and more. The system handles up to 100 amps of continuous draw across all eight circuits simultaneously. For context, the stock upfitter system on a 2017 Ford F150 Raptor can only handle 5–15 amps per circuit, which means you're hitting a power ceiling fast.And beyond just the benefits of power, you gain a full suite of programmable functions: dimming, strobe, flash, momentary mode, switch linking, and auto power-up all controlled from your phone via the sPOD app on iOS or Android. But most importantly, your upfitters become triggers for all of your accessories, with an additional two circuits controlled through the app. Six factory switches become eight fully capable, programmable circuits without touching your dash. Which means you can run a sPOD BantamX with or without a control such as the HD Panel or Touch Screen.
Built-In Protection. No Fuses. No Relays.With sGuard™ programmable self-healing technology, the BantamX protects every circuit automatically no blown fuses on the trail, if you do end up overloading a circuit it doesn't blow a relay or fuse, the system just restarts so that means no hassling with relays. LVCO (Low Voltage Cutoff) monitors your battery and automatically disconnects accessories before over-discharge can leave you stranded. And if you need to bypass LVCO for a specific use case such as a race vehicle, that's configurable too.The system is also expandable. Daisy chain up to four BantamX units and control all 32 circuits from a single controller. Everything is backed by sPOD's industry-leading 5-year warranty.
Linking Your Upfitters to the BantamXHere's how it works. The BantamX features an 8-position input terminal block that accepts trigger signals from external power sources to trigger the associated circuit.Wire your upfitters into the BantamX input terminals, and now those factory switches are going to activate the corisponding circuit and the associated programmed mode. Your stock switch upfitters to the sPOD output, which means you keep the clean, factory-integrated look in the cab while gaining everything the BantamX brings to the table.Each input can be configured for positive trigger (3.3–24VDC) or ground trigger, selectable via a jumper on the module. The two reserved inputs handle LVCO bypass and ignition-based key-on lock-out for switches 1 and 2. The remaining inputs map directly to any of the eight output circuits. Before you touch anything in the cab, grab the app. Search "sPOD" in the App Store or Google Play and install it. It's free.
Open the app and create an account if you don't already have one.
Step 2: Power Up Your BantamX
Make sure your vehicle is on or in accessory mode so the BantamX has power. The unit needs to be active before your phone can find it.
Step 3: Enable Bluetooth on Your Phone
Head to your phone's settings and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. You don't need to manually pair through your phone's Bluetooth menu — the sPOD app handles the connection for you.
Step 4: Connect Through the sPOD App
Open the sPOD app and tap "Connect Device" (or the Bluetooth icon, depending on your app version). The app will scan for nearby BantamX units and display yours in the list.
Tap your BantamX to initiate the connection. Once paired, the app will sync with your unit and you'll see your switch layout populate on screen.
First time connecting? You may be prompted to confirm a pairing code. Just follow the on-screen prompts — it takes seconds.
Step 5: Customize Your Switch Layout
This is where the BantamX earns its keep. From the app you can:
Name each switch — Label channels by what they control (light bar, rock lights, air compressor, etc.)
Set switch types — Momentary, toggle, or pulse — whatever fits the accessory
Switch Linking — Group multiple switches into a single tap for trail mode, camp mode, and more
Adjust backlight color and brightness — Match your cab's vibe or dial it down for night driving

How to Strobe or Dim Your Lights | Tips and Tricks
One of the big questions we get is "How do I strobe my lights with an sPOD" or "How do I dim my lights with an sPOD?" Open the sPOD app and connect to your system
Click "Setup"
Click the channel you want to modify and select "Dimmable". press OK
Select the channel you modified to dim, and with the light on a slider on the right side of the channel will appear.
Click the slider and a larger vertical slider will appear that you are able to move up and down controlling the brightness of your light.
On the HD Controller:
Hold down the same channel button you set up through the App
While holding it down, your light will slowly dim down or up depending which one you are on. Hold the button down long enough it will eventually turn off the circuit.

Total Control At His Fingertips
Harrison uses two sPOD BantamX power control modules mated to a touchscreen controller both inside the driver cab. He also has a touchscreen controller inside of his living quarters, giving him the flexibility to control all 35 of his Baja Designs lights and other powered accessories no matter where he is inside the vehicle. "The goal behind this build is to live comfortably wherever I go, carry my motorcycle safely as I traverse down through South America to Argentina for two years" says Harrison of his build.
Feeling like an Iron cowboy controlling 20,000 pounds of steel and aluminum, Harrison's Unimog is a crazy driving experience. 1st Gear Offroad 1962 Jeep FC-170
One of the most standout builds we've encountered is Roy's 1962 Jeep FC-170. Roy has spent most of his life around Jeeps and was looking for the ultimate Jeep build. In 2002, after searching for the right project, he picked up this Jeep FC-170 from Pinion Pines, CA in 2002 after seeing it for sale on Green Sheet. For Roy, this was the start of one of his most favorite builds he has done. "I built this truck, not just for going camping and exploring, but also to act as a chase truck when helping the #94 Christopher Polvoorde trophy truck race team down in Baja", explains Roy. "The Jeep spends a lot of time in the local deserts and mountains and has seen a lot of rough trails that haven’t been driven for a while. It is purpose built and modular in a way that adapts to whatever event or needs may be expected."
Roy has set his FC up with a dual sPOD BantamX units daisy chained together, controlled in the cab by the sPOD touchscreen controller. This set-up allows Roy 16 channels to power all of his lights and other powered accessories that have been added for when he is off the grid."I use the sPOD system because it is simple to install and there is not much room under the dash in an FC to begin with. It powers all of the exterior Baja Designs lights along with the A/C and Trans cooling fans, and Bed/Canopy power accessories", explains Roy.
The FC did not start out to be a show truck. Throughout it's build, the attention it garnered allowed Roy to use his FC-170 as a show vehicle. But don't let the looks fool you, this rig is meant to go out and hit some of the roughest trails out there. By no means is this Jeep a trailer queen. As Roy says, "With all of my rigs, I do use them, not abuse them."
20 years of traveling all over California with the Jeep FC-170. From the mountains to the deserts, Roy has taken his Jeep FC almost everywhere on the trails, stunning other 4x4 drivers by the fact that he has taken it where it it shouldn't have gone. Jason Denney, aka @tacodust has built his fair share of offroad vehicles - from rock crawlers, a long traveled Tacoma outfitted to an Overlander’s dream (before the word “Prelander” existed), big body rigs like his Prospector XL, and many more - and he took all he learned from his previous builds to do one thing: Build the most all-around capable rig he could, and this Raptor was born
While showcasing the ups and downs of the build with his audience on social media, Jason turned a low mileage stock one owner truck into possibly our favorite 2nd Gen Raptor on the planet.
Jason needed a robust yet simple system to power a plethora of Baja Designs lights, and other accessories. With two sPOD BantamX systems linked together, for a combined 16 switches, he has power for everything.
While he can control all 16 switches from his cab with our Touchscreen system, each sPOD has a specific purpose. One system’s main function, like many offroad trucks, is for powering Baja Designs driving lights, including about 60,000 lumens of forward projecting lights, chase lights, and 2 rock lights per wheel well.
While the second system is the backbone of what makes this truck a step above your average Raptor prerunner build. With an HD control panel mounted to the BuiltRight Industries molly panels, Jason is controlling everything that makes this truck perfect for his other hobbies outside hitting whoops.

Tyler Cates 2020 Ford Ranger XLT
Tyler Cates, known as @tylercatesphotos on Instagram has built himself a purpose ready truck that allows him to take the trails deep into the desert where he shoots photos of the most off-road ready vehicles in Southern California.
His 2020 Ford Ranger XLT may have started out as a stock vehicle, but over time has built it up to be very capable of hitting the whoops of Johnson Valley or the trails of Big Bear. Let’s get into what makes his Ranger one of the more unique builds on the trails today, and how he has incorporated sPOD to power his accessories.
Starting with the engine bay, Tyler runs a Mountune Intercooler with Charge Pipes, Turbosmart BOV, Mishimoto Intake, and AWE Performance Exhaust. Moving to the interior of the truck some unique products used in there are custom seats, carbon fiber oem style steering wheel, carbon fiber interior dash pieces, an sPOD HD 8 Switch, Rugged Radios M1, and an Ultimate 9 throttle controller!
For lighting, Tyler has outfitted his Ranger with a fill assortment of the latest Rigid Industries lights. On the A-Pillar are the Adapt XP extremes, while on the front bumper is a series of the Rigid 360 6-inch round lights along with the D-series hung under the bumper for total coverage in any situation.
Tyler uses 37 x 12.5 x 17 General Grabber ATX tires on 17-inch KMC wheels Grenade Desert beadlocks. This bulletproof combination allows him to tackle any terrain when chasing race vehicles out in the desert. He installed larger fender flairs from ADV Fiberglass to conceal the large General Grabbers from kicking up any rocks or debris, RKSport V1 Ranger Hood, and the Prerunner Style Bumper giving the truck that aggressive look he was looking for. For suspension, he is running a custom +3 Ranger Mid Travel kit with custom tig welded sleeved tie-rods, King Shocks 2.5" x 8" king coilovers with 2.5" x 8" triple bypass up front and Icon 2.0 smooth body shock and a custom leaf pack from Alcon out back.
To power all of his lights and accessories, Tyler Is utilizing the sPOD BantamX/HD Smart Controller 8-channel system for ease of usability. Keeping access to his accessories at his fingertips at all times is essential while on night time photo shoots. Keeping his dash clean, he decided on mounting his HD controller on the door of the sunglass holder on the upper console, giving that sleek and hidden look.

If you're looking to take control of all your 12V accessories on your vehicle, then an sPOD BantamX is a no-brainer. That means this system can handle incredible power to control most accessories, whether you are building a full-tilt Prerunner or overland adventure rig destined for the Rocky Mountains. sPOD gives you the power to take control and adventure further with confidence. With all the advanced technology designed into the power management systems, we wanted to tell you five things you didn't know about the sPOD BantamX.
Input Control
Taking factory integration to the next level, the sPOD BantamX comes standard with factory inputs, which allow you to integrate your power control module system with your vehicle's OEM equipment.
It allows you to integrate things like your rock lights being programmed to come on with the door triggers or will enable you to control your sPOD with factory up-fitter switches by running wires from the input terminal to the corresponding circuits.
Another great use for input controls is integrating your power control module system with your vehicle's OEM equipment. It will enable you to incorporate things like your fuel pump circuit to turn on when the ignition turns on, making it extremely convenient for a startup sequence. These are just some of the endless use cases for utilizing Input Control.
Dip Switches
On the sPOD BantamX power control module, there are six small dip switches that have multiple functions to control different features of the system. We know you are probably looking at these switches and are thinking, "What the heck is this?". Don't worry; we got you covered; let's dive into it.
Switch 1: This engages your sPOD into Bluetooth pairing mode. All you do is flip it on, and Bluetooth is ready to pair.
Switch 2: All sPOD Systems are compatible with both 12V and 24V systems that you would typically see in industrial applications. The (OFF) position signifies it is on 12V and (ON) is 24V.
Switches 3 & 4: Lock-out control functions for corresponding switches #1 & #2, when working in tandem with the input triggers, enable the ability to have a lock-out function such as lockers, high beams, and even reverse light.
Switches 5 & 6: This is utilized if you want to connect multiple bantams together to utilize under one controller. There is a possibility of linking up to four Bantam units together for a total of 36 circuits.
Bluetooth
Each sPOD comes with built-in Bluetooth technology, enabling wireless control via the sPOD App and offering various programming options, including output dimming, strobing, flashing, and more.
Switch Linking
Switch linking is a great function that is standard on the sPOD BantamX. The switch-linking function can easily be controlled through the app and saved to the switch panel by selecting which circuits you want to turn on with the master circuit, and then when you select that master circuit, the corresponding circuits turn on. A great use case for this is linking an ignition circuit to a fuel pump. That way, when you turn on your ignition, your fuel pump automatically turns on. In addition, you can even have a circuit where you can link all your lights together and have them turn on all at once.
HD Panel Smart Functions
The HD panel is more than just a typical switch panel where you may typically turn circuits on and off. It is much more than that; it is a smart panel that includes various programmable modes for the BantamX, such as dimming, flash momentary, strobe, switch linking, and a master switch setting.

What Makes a Build “Simple”? This Hilux on portals is the Answer
What is considered a simple build? Is it a truck that is simple itself? Or is it a truck that was built in a way that makes it simple to live with, easy to maintain, easy to fix on the trail, nothing you can’t diagnose with basic tools?Because I’d argue a bone-stock truck with 40 aftermarket “simple” bolt-ons isn’t simple anymore, and a heavily built truck with clean wiring and thoughtful choices can beThis Toyota Hilux embodies that philosophy. It was built by our friends at Stellar Built, and at its core, it’s just a Toyota Hilux. It’s a diesel. It’s on portals, it has a few lights, and it’s wired up by an sPOD. That’s it.Okay, but seriously, let’s talk about why this truck is actually simple.
You can’t build a simple truck on a complicated foundation, and there may be no better starting platform for a reliable truck on Earth than a diesel Hilux. This is the truck known around the world as the most reliable vehicle. The one Top Gear famously tried and failed to kill by drowning it, dropping it, setting it on fire, and putting it on top of a demolished building. It started every time.While we never got a Hilux in the U.S., we did get its cousin, the Toyota Tacoma. There’s a reason the Hilux is the default vehicle anywhere in the world where breaking down isn’t an option. It’s simple: a stout ladder frame, a diesel that runs forever, and nothing on it that a set of hand tools and some patience can’t fix. When your starting point is a truck engineered to survive decades of abuse in places with no dealership for a thousand miles, your decision into modifications better make it worthwhile.
The truck sits on 74Weld portal axles, which lift the truck higher and improve gearing to accommodate larger tires. But the huge added benefit is ground clearance, and what better way to test ground clearance than taking it through the Rubicon? That’s exactly what they did just a few weeks ago. With only a rear locker and 35-inch tires.It still runs the factory lower control arms and factory suspension geometry. No long-travel kit, no custom links, no exotic geometry to chase alignment specs on. The only suspension upgrade is a set of Fox Performance Series 2.5 shocks, and that's it. That’s the simple-build philosophy in action: upgrade what earns its place, leave alone what already works.
Up front, a custom bumper designed and manufactured by Stellar Built houses Baja Designs LP4s ands a set of Baja Designs Squadron infrared IR lights all wired to an sPOD Mini6 controller and the SourceLT power module. And this is the perfect setup for a build like this, because the electrical system is exactly as simple as the truck.
The sPOD SourceLT delivers 6 circuits at 30 amps each with no relays and no fuses. The whole system runs on current-sensing MOSFETs with self-healing fault protection, so there's nothing to blow and nothing to replace on the trail. One cable connects the power module to the Mini6 in the cab, and that's the entire install. Built-in Bluetooth connects to the sPOD app, giving you full control from your phone, which includes dimming, strobing, flashing, switch linking, and more. It even includes low voltage cutoff (LVCO) to protect the battery when the truck sits. No rat’s nest of relay wiring. No fuse block zip-tied under the dash. One clean system that just turns the lights on, which, on a simple build, is all it should do.
The rear gets a high-clearance bumper and a GFC topper storage and departure angle, nothing more. Every choice on this Hilux answers the same question: does this make the truck easier to live with, or harder? Integrating an sPOD with Ford Upfitter Switches
We all love a good tactile switch. The upfitter switches that come standard on Ford trucks from the Super Duty to the F-150 Raptor and Bronco are a great, easy way to integrate lighting and accessories into your vehicle. No fishing wires through the cab, no figuring out where to mount relays. You simply plug into the upfitter harness and go.But here's the thing: they're just switches. On and off. The stock upfitter system is limited in how much power it can actually push through each circuit, which means your options for running high-power accessories are capped unless you run an inlay relay. That's where the sPOD BantamX comes into play.
By integrating a sPOD BantamX into your Ford's electrical system, each circuit becomes capable of handling 30 amps, enough to run lights, compressors, lockers, fans, radios, and more. The system handles up to 100 amps of continuous draw across all eight circuits simultaneously. For context, the stock upfitter system on a 2017 Ford F150 Raptor can only handle 5–15 amps per circuit, which means you're hitting a power ceiling fast.And beyond just the benefits of power, you gain a full suite of programmable functions: dimming, strobe, flash, momentary mode, switch linking, and auto power-up all controlled from your phone via the sPOD app on iOS or Android. Step 4: Connect Through the sPOD App
